How Typing Speed is Calculated (WPM & CPM Standards)
TypingClub adheres strictly to the standardized international typing examination standard. In standard typing tests:
- Standard Word: Exactly 5 keystrokes are counted as one word. This standard prevents tests composed of shorter words from falsely inflating scores compared to tests with longer words.
- Net WPM (Words Per Minute): Calculated as
((Correct Characters / 5) / Elapsed Minutes). Only accurately typed characters contribute to your net score. - CPM (Characters Per Minute): Directly reflects the raw total of correct characters typed per minute.
- Accuracy Percentage: Calculated as
(Correct Keystrokes / Total Keystrokes) * 100%. Typists should consistently aim for 95%+ accuracy before attempting to push for higher raw speed.
